The construction industry is facing one of its biggest transitions. For Stångebro Bygg, the answer has never been to wait for the industry to catch up – but to let sustainability efforts grow from within, driven by engaged employees and a genuine interest in both nature and people. They have now signed the industry roadmap towards climate neutrality by 2045 – and are working purposefully to achieve it.
Since Benny Valtersson took over as CEO in 2013, the perspective has broadened. The foundation has long been economic and social sustainability – building a stable business and being a workplace where people thrive and want to stay. It was younger employees who opened their eyes to the third dimension: environmental sustainability. Combined with Benny’s own interest in nature and ecology, climate issues naturally became an integral part of the business. Since then, all three perspectives – economic, social, and environmental – have been part of the company’s daily operations.
“If you have employees who enjoy their work and want to grow, sustainability efforts develop alongside them. The results almost come naturally,” says Benny Valtersson.
Small incentives, big impact
Stångebro Bygg works with concrete, everyday measures to encourage sustainable choices. Employees who choose to cycle or walk to work receive an extra SEK 25 per day. Those who refuel with HVO instead of diesel receive an extra SEK 10 per Swedish mile (10 km). And when new employees join, new ideas follow – such as expanded waste sorting in site cabins, something that was previously completely lacking.
This approach reflects the company’s philosophy: sustainability is not a project, but a culture.
From climate reports to automated follow-up
The first climate calculations were carried out for the years 2019 and 2021, with the help of an external consultant. Since 2022, Stångebro Bygg has been part of the Rotunda Group, and work is underway to establish a shared and solid foundation for sustainability efforts across the group.
The hope now is that GoClimate’s platform will make follow-up both easier and more detailed – down to the project and building component level, directly linked to the NEXT business system.
“With GoClimate, we finally have the opportunity to track emissions where they actually occur – at the project and building component level – directly in our business system. This allows us to make better decisions, not just report afterwards,” says Benny Valtersson.
“With simpler and automated follow-up, it will be much easier to monitor and adjust,” he adds.
Taking industry responsibility in practice
As a signatory of the roadmap towards climate neutrality by 2045, Stångebro Bygg is taking its share of the industry’s collective responsibility. With automated follow-up and better project-level data, the commitment becomes more than a statement of intent – it becomes part of everyday work.
Get started
With GoClimate, construction companies gain a clear overview of their emissions – both at company level and per project – and can follow up on their efforts in a way that meets both customer and regulatory requirements. This creates the conditions for more informed decisions, both in daily operations and over time.
