Leading climate and sustainability work is important and meaningful, yet often complex, lonely, and filled with conflicting goals. Many sustainability managers report high expectations, tough stakeholder dialogues, and a constant feeling that they need to do more. Driving change requires both knowledge and support along the way. This is why Klimatcoacherna - The Climate Coaches - was founded.
The concept of climate coaching started gaining attention internationally, particularly in the UK, during the latter part of the 2010s. Increasing awareness of climate change in workplaces created a need for a specialized group of coaches who could support change leaders. In 2019, the Climate Coaching Alliance (CCA) network was established, and a few years later, a subgroup was formed in Sweden.
Today, Klimatcoacherna in Sweden is a network bringing together professional coaches with extensive experience in change leadership across business, public sector, and civil society.
“Research shows that sustainability leaders often lack social support at work, feel anxiety about the future, and experience frustration that the progress is too slow. This creates a breeding ground for mental strain—something we cannot afford, neither on a human nor a planetary level,” says climate coach Ullis Petersson.
Reach sustainability transformation in practice
Through coaching and facilitated conversations, Klimatcoacherna help leaders and teams gain clarity, energy, and focus – and succeed in their sustainability transformation in practice. Many of Klimatcoacherna’s clients are small and medium-sized businesses across all industries, particularly individuals in leadership roles or with sustainability responsibilities.
“Common challenges our clients face include creating alignment around visions and goals, feeling overwhelmed by their mission, struggling to reach key stakeholders, or finding it difficult to switch off from work,” says climate coach Jens Malmström.
Klimatcoacherna offers, among other things, individual coaching through a series of sessions, group and team coaching with experience sharing, as well as a variety of workshops. But the programs are also flexible – the focus is on tailoring support to each client’s needs.
Like traditional coaching, climate coaching is entirely based on the coachee’s own will and motivation. You decide which challenges and topics to address.
“We support you in managing exactly what you are facing,” says Jens Malmström.
