Conapto want to inspire to reduced emissions in the colocation industry
Conapto offers secure and flexible data center colocation as well as cloud connectivity – all with a focus on sustainability.

“Prioritising sustainability is not only important to us at Conapto, but also to our customers and society as a whole,” says Christoffer Linder, Sustainability Project Manager at Conapto.
By openly measuring and reporting its emissions with the help of GoClimate, Conapto aims to drive emissions reductions across the colocation industry, says Christoffer Linder.
Striving to reduce emissions
In 2008, Conapto established its Stockholm Syd 2 data centre and, at the same time, decided to place greater emphasis on sustainability and reducing its emissions.
One of the measures taken was to switch electricity suppliers to enable the use of 100% renewable energy from hydropower and wind power, as well as to match energy consumption on an hourly basis through Vattenfall’s 24/7 matching.
This system tracks electricity generation hour by hour, increasing transparency while ensuring that Conapto can meet its commitment to using 100% renewable electricity around the clock, all year round — except during potential power outages, when backup generators are used.
Since 2022, Conapto has invested in new backup generators that enable the use of Ecopar diesel, an alternative to conventional diesel, in these situations.
Reusing data centre energy for heating
Another key element of Conapto’s sustainability efforts is its focus on heat recovery. Partnerships with Stockholm Exergi and Sollentuna Energi och Miljö enable excess heat from its data centres to be fed back into the local district heating network, providing recovered and cost-effective heat for buildings such as residential properties.
Conapto’s sustainability initiatives also extend to its environmental and energy management systems, which are certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001. These certifications demonstrate Conapto’s systematic approach to integrating environmental and energy management into its operations, supporting continuous improvements in energy performance.
Conapto’s business model is a good example of how companies can operate sustainably by reducing their climate impact while continuing to deliver high-quality services.
We hope that Conapto’s work with hourly matched renewable electricity, heat recovery and the reuse of electronic equipment will inspire more companies in the industry!
