Färsodlarna produces mince made from legumes, with the aim of reducing the climate footprint of food. But exactly how much lower are the emissions? That is a crucial question for Färsodlarna—one they get answered with the help of GoClimate.

For Färsodlarna, climate impact is not a layer of communication. It is the core business idea. The company produces mince made from whole legumes, developed to replace foods with a significantly higher climate impact.

Yet even for companies with a clear climate ambition, there is a well-known obstacle: climate data that is time-consuming, manual, and difficult to trust. The risk is that the work becomes an annual project rather than a continuous basis for decision-making.

Accurate climate data is not a bonus - it is essential

With Hållbarhetskollen, the platform run by GoClimate in collaboration with Handelsbanken, Färsodlarna has broken that pattern.

“We work on two fronts with our climate efforts. On the one hand, we want to replace alternatives with much higher climate impact—and on the other, our climate footprint per kilo of product must continue to decrease", says Oddgeir Hole, CEO of Färsodlarna.

In practice, this means that Färsodlarna’s products replace Swedish beef with around 33 times lower emissions per kilo, and soy protein mince with approximately three times lower emissions. For a company like this, accurate climate data is not a bonus—it is essential.

Previously, calculations were based on manual work and therefore carried out infrequently, often only once a year. This took time, tied up resources, and increased the risk of errors. At the same time, the need to track progress more frequently grew—both internally and in dialogue with external stakeholders.

"This has saved us a huge amount of time"

By integrating Färsodlarna’s own product-specific emission factors directly into Hållbarhetskollen, the playing field changed completely.

“When our source-based data is integrated, all data becomes comparable. And the fact that this happens fully automatically saves us an enormous amount of time," says Oddgeir Hole.

The integration process itself became a clear example of how low the barrier actually is.

“It took exactly 90 minutes. One hour of preparation and half an hour on a call with Hållbarhetskollen’s consultant. Incredibly smooth," says Oddgeir Hole.

When the first results came in, the next test was decisive: did the numbers add up? The answer was yes—by a wide margin.

“We were surprised by how extremely accurate Hållbarhetskollen was compared to our own previous calculations. Without that level of accuracy, we would never have been able to use the data," says Oddgeir Hole.

Today, Färsodlarna receives automatic climate reports every month and can track progress continuously, without spending time on its own data management. Climate work has gone from manual and infrequent to automated and continuous.

“Now we can basically check whenever we want. This has saved us a huge amount of time", says Oddgeir Hole.

Key factor: The ability to combine detailed product-level calculations with a clear overall picture at a company level

For Färsodlarna, this means that their own product-specific emissions data, developed in collaboration with CarbonCloud, can also serve as the basis for the company’s overall climate calculations in GoClimate. Where CarbonCloud provides precision at the product level, GoClimate delivers an overview and structure for the entire business.

“The combination ensures that everything we measure and everything we say is correct and verified. We can now also talk about the company at a total level, which has been difficult in the past," says Oddgeir Hole.

For Färsodlarna, climate work ultimately comes down to scaling the business. The owner, Novax, founded the company to drive change through food, and every product sold is a step in that direction.

When climate data becomes simple, reliable, and closely connected to the business, friction disappears. That allows focus to stay where it belongs: on growth, quality, and enabling more people to choose better alternatives.

With Hållbarhetskollen, Handelsbanken’s customers can quickly gain an overview of their emissions, identify the largest sources, and start reporting in a way that meets both customer expectations and regulatory requirements. It is the first step toward not just meeting the requirements—but staying one step ahead.
