1000skis is a ski brand from Åre that combines premium performance with a clear sustainability focus. Founded by skiers who wanted to build skis made to last – technically, aesthetically, and climate-wise – the company produces its skis at Åre Skidfabrik using 100% renewable energy. From the very beginning, the business has been built around conscious material choices and responsibility throughout the entire value chain.

To take the next step, 1000skis needed a more complete picture of its climate impact. Through its collaboration with GoClimate, the company now has exactly that: structured, comprehensive climate calculations that provide clear guidance for decision-making.

“Now we can spend more time quality-checking details, analysing the data, and planning concrete actions – for example by identifying which emission sources and emission factors we should focus on going forward,” says co-founder Magnus Granér.

From basic estimates to a full picture

Previously, 1000skis worked with simpler climate calculations, including through SME Climate Hub. This provided an initial indication, but not the full picture. Indirect emissions – in supplier chains, materials, and transport – were particularly difficult to capture in a way that could be tracked over time. At the same time, this was where the largest share of the climate impact was found.

The need was clear: better data, less manual work, and a structure that more clearly links climate issues to business and product development.

Climate calculations used in everyday work

Through GoClimate’s platform, 1000skis now gathers all its climate data in one place. This makes it possible to follow the entire value chain, understand how different parts of the business affect emissions, and work more proactively on improvements. Instead of spending time chasing numbers, the team can now focus on interpreting results and turning insights into practical action.

It also provides a solid foundation for future sustainability reporting and ensures that climate calculations become a living tool – not a once-a-year exercise.

Structure reinforced by B Corp certification

At the same time, 1000skis has become B Corp certified. The process has contributed clearer internal frameworks, responsibilities, and goals, and together with the climate calculations it creates a more coherent, data-driven sustainability strategy. Decisions can be made on a more informed basis, and efforts can be directed where they make the greatest difference.

Skis built to last – for skiers and for the planet

Beyond calculations and reports, 1000skis’ work is ultimately about the product itself. The skis are developed and produced in Åre, and the company deliberately avoids annual graphic updates. Instead, designs remain consistent over time, with the focus placed on durable quality, long product life, and serviceability – rather than aesthetics that become outdated after a single season.

The company also collaborates with research partners such as RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) to explore more circular solutions in ski production and the development of new materials.

Moving the industry forward together

1000skis is not only driving its own transition, but also actively engages in the Winter Sports Sustainability Network. The network brings together actors from across the winter sports industry to share knowledge, influence supply chains, and collectively raise ambition levels.

“By bringing together players from the winter sports industry, we can share knowledge, set common requirements for suppliers, and drive development forward together,” says Magnus Granér.

With climate calculations through GoClimate, B Corp certification, and a strong values-driven foundation, 1000skis has strengthened its sustainability work without losing sight of what matters most: the joy of skiing. The company shows that a smaller brand can lead the industry – and at the same time make the journey inspiring for others.
